Newer steel doors with only one strut on top often need only 7 1 4 turns. Without the springs the door is very difficult to lift. At this point you will wind the springs. If the garage door isn t opening or closing properly then check the tension on the torsion springs for needed adjustments you may need to have someone helping you to adjust the torsion spring because it can be potentially dangerous.

Hold the garage door in this position by attaching a c clamp to the track at a point below the lowest door roller wheel. To adjust your garage door s side mounted springs first open your door fully and secure it in place with a c clamp below the bottom roller. This is accomplished by opening the garage door as fully as possible until it hits the stop bolt on the track. Retest the door balance as you did in step 1.
