If you have large windows french doors or a contemporary look to your home wide louvres or slats 3 or 4 often work best.
Custom cut outs are available such as an oval with a surcharge.
Shutters for french doors are mounted using the l frame either on all 4 sides 3 sides or on just the top and bottom if the clearance at the handle of the door does not allow for the frame.
Remember the wider the slats the deeper your shutter frame needs to be so that might influence your choice.

Typically a standard 4 1 4 half circle cut out is enough to accommodate most levers though we also offer a 5 1 4 and 6 1 4.
We like most shutter manufacturers offer a half circle and rectangular cut out.
Less experienced manufacturers use a square cut out covering more of the glass space you were trying to preserve and reducing the shutter aesthetics.
